Rebecca | Chair
What is your favourite thing about dal/dis? The people! Everyone in DIS has walked a different path, but we’ve all converged in this space based on shared interests and passions. I’ve enjoyed the coursework too, but what truly has made the classes, and this degree, special are the thoughts, opinions, ideas, and experiences that we each bring to the classroom and the common room. Getting to meet, connect, make friends with, and learn from the DIS folks is the best!
What inspired you to get involved? ISSA was a great opportunity to give back, and to work with other chairs to advocate for MI students within the faculty. I wanted to be a part of the team that helps ensure MI students have great experiences at Dal and support them however I could. I also love knowing what’s going on within the department and faculty and finding synergies, so Chair seemed like a great fit!
How do I spend my spare time? I love being active, and can usually be found doing aerial silks, running on trails, paddleboarding, riding my bike, or in the gym. When I’m stationary, I’ll usually have a book or knitting needles in my hands.

What inspired you to get involved? I have a history of participating in student government in a variety of ways! I was really excited about the opportunity to get involved with DIS in particular because the program is so small so there is a sense that what ISSA does has a genuine impact on all of the DIS students.
How do I spend my spare time? I love to craft (what craft really depends on the day), roller blade, bike, and spend time with my friends!

What is your favourite thing about dal/dis? My favourite thing about Dis is the variety in the program, there are so many different aspects to information science and I really enjoy being in a program that encourages you to learn about different topics and places you can use this degree after graduating. Plus, all of the professors are really passionate about what they teach do you can always reach out with more questions when needed 🙂
What inspired you to get involved? I moved to Halifax from Ontario for my undergrad degree, and I love living here, I wanted to help new students explore the city and hopefully find places outside of the classroom that feels like community.
How do I spend my spare time? In my spare time I can usually be found roller-skating at local skate parks! It’s a new hobby I picked up and I am trying to convince everyone to try it with me ☺️

What is your favourite thing about Dalhousie/DIS? The DIS common room might be my favourite thing about Dalhousie, besides all the lovely people I have met here. I hold a special place in my heart for the Keurig machine located there. It has gotten me through many late-night study sessions.
What inspired you to get involved? I have been impressed by the events and activities ISSA has put on since my first day at Dalhousie, when they made me feel welcome. ISSA has made a positive impact on my experience in the Information Studies program. This made me want to get involved myself. I hope to help create similar positive experiences for current and future students.
