Meet Emily Ritonja | Chair

Emily (she/her) is a second-year Master of Information student at Dalhousie University. Originally from Ottawa, she holds a BAH and an MA in Religious Studies from Queen’s University. She is an aspiring health librarian, with a key interest in knowledge synthesis and supporting evidence-based healthcare. In her spare time, she can be found reading, creating new recipes, or hiking.

Meet Natalie Liza Barte | Academic Co-Chair

Natalie Liza (she/her) is a second-year Master of Information student. She completed her undergraduate degree at Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Passionate about health and community, she strives to become a leader in health librarianship one day, with goals to improve research and patient care. Outside of school, she loves to read, watch movies, and go hiking in her spare time.

Ellen Sawatzky | Academic Co-Chair

Ellen (she/her) is a second-year student in the Master of Information program at Dalhousie. Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, she graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Honours degree in English Literature. She has professional experience working in university administration and is exploring academic librarianship and metadata in her studies. In her free time, Ellen enjoys crafting of all kinds, exploring nature, and (of course) reading a good book.

Stephen MacMillan | Non-Academic Co-Chair

Stephen (he/him) is a second-year Master of Information student at Dalhousie University. He completed his undergraduate at Saint Mary’s University with a major in history and a minor in classics. In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing video games, model making, and hanging out with friends.

Taylor Brown | Non-Academic Co-Chair

Taylor (she/her) is a second-year Master of Information student at Dalhousie University. Originally from Pickering, Ontario, Taylor completed her BA in English and Creative Writing at the University of Guelph. She also serves as the editor-in-chief of the Dalhousie Journal of Interdisciplinary Management. As a lifelong learner and a non-academic co-chair, she values community building, providing opportunities for students and, most importantly, movie nights.

Zia Shirtliffe | Communications Chair

Zia (any pronouns) is a second-year full-time student working on a thesis in the MI. They’re focusing on both archives and libraries in this degree but focused on early modern alchemy in their undergraduate degree. They’ve lived in Halifax for six years but are originally from Saskatoon. 😊 Find them if you want to chat about crosswords, poetry, the thesis option, or Halifax cafes! 

Summer Wilson | Financial Chair

Summer (she/her) is a second-year student in the Dalhousie Master of Information program. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University, where she majored in philosophy and minored in economics. Currently, she is interested in bibliometrics, specifically in measuring interdisciplinary research. In her free time she loves to read, take her cat on small walks, and explore Halifax.

Veronica Kerrigan | Digital Publications Chair

Veronica (she/her) is a second-year Master of Information student at Dalhousie University, originating from Saint John, New Brunswick. An aspiring children’s librarian, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University. Veronica is interested in children/youth led services, information-seeking behaviour, and collections management. In her spare time Veronica loves to write, sew, paint, and pole-dance.
