Join IM Subject Library Lindsay McNiff for the first Academic Support workshop of the term on Tuesday, January 20, from 1:00 – 2:30 in Rowe 4001. The topic, “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Everything about Academic Libraries,” will include valuable career advice, including information about health sciences librarianship and working temporary contracts.
Guest speakers include Robin Parker and Melissa Helwig from the Kellogg Health Sciences Library.

Information Management Public Lecture – January 15
“Social Activism on Twitter: How ‘Wise’ are Online Social Movements?”
The first IM Public Lecture of the term will take place on Thursday, January 15th, from 1:00-2:00pm in Rowe 3089. Ryan Deschamps from the University of Regina will present his paper, “Social activism on Twitter: how ‘wise’ are online social movements?”
Using structural examples from social movements on Twitter and the DeGroot learning model, this paper will show some examples of “wise” and “unwise” crowds online and offer some ideas about the implications of each for public policy agenda setting.
PPD: Making Career Connections – January 13
On Tuesday, January 13, please join Management Career Services and a guest from Halifax Public Libraries for the first Professional Development workshop of the term. The topic is Making Career Connections, and this will include a discussion of professional networking and a demonstrated informational interview.
The workshop will take place from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Brown Bag Lunch – January 13
This term’s first Brown Bag Lunch will take place Tuesday, January 13 at 12:00 noon in the SIM Board Room. The topic is “Implementing the Primo Discovery Layer.”
Speakers include Lou Duggan (SMU Librarian) and Bill Slauenwhite (Novanet Manager).
If you are interested in academic librarianship, resources access, consortia, and/or library information systems, this talk should not be missed!
Holiday Party – December 5
This is the event that needs no introduction… it’s simply one of the most famously fun times of the year!
End your semester with a bang at the SIMSA Holiday Party on Friday, December 5th. There will be lots of food, drink, and holiday cheer, not to mention pub favourites like trivia and karaoke! So spruce yourself up and come on down to the University Club Pub – party starts at 8:00.
Tickets are $10.00 and include a spread of appetizers, some fun activities and some great company (there is also a cash bar). All funds raised will go toward your student association and will enable more fun events! You can buy tickets from Maria Bartlett, Tam Proulx, or Hannah Steeves.
