Lunchless Learn Tomorrow!

Don’t miss the next Lunchless Learn on Friday October 15th at 4PM!

Hop on a Teams call to hear Sharon Murray, Archives Advisor for the Council of Nova Scotia Archives, discuss routes into the archival profession what she sees as the path ahead for archives and archivists in Nova Scotia and Canada. Between her circuitous route into the profession plus work in archives and with the CNSA, Sharon can shed light on the realities of work in the profession as well as the skill-sets she knows archives do or will soon need.

Next SIMSA Meeting!

SIMSA will be hosting our March All-Members meeting via Teams on Wednesday March 17th from 3pm-4pm AST. We hope to discuss the spring election as well as get updates from our executive members. Hope to see you there!

Election Time!

The time has come for our second round of SIMSA elections! There are four positions available.

SIMSA’s main objectives are to represent the SIM student body and to promote communications and cooperation among students, as well as between students and faculty. We work to foster relationships with other organizations in the Faculty of Management, as well as promote activities (academic and social) connected with our school.

With the elections, we are opening up an opportunity for you to help us continue to do these things! The available positions are:

  • Chair or Co-Chair – one-year term
    • The Chair or Co-Chairs coordinate SIMSA, schedule and facilitate meetings with Dr. Howard, and overall guide SIMSA throughout the course of the academic year.
    • Please submit nominations as a single person or as a pair if you would like to be co-chairs!
  • Financial Chair – one-year term
    • The Financial Chair prepares the annual budget, acts as co-signer for the SIMSA chequing account, and gives monthly financial updates.
  • Communications Chair – one-year term
    • The Communications Chair coordinates meetings and minute-taking, manages the SIMSA email account and listserv, and acts as elections officer throughout the year.
  • Special Projects Chair – one-year term
    • The Special Projects Chair will work on some special projects including developing an EDI initiative for SIM, as well as coordinating a merch launch for SIMSA or SIM.

Now for the nominations! Any full or part-time MI student, including those doing combined programs, is eligible to be nominated. You can nominate yourself or another person; if someone else has submitted your name for nomination, we will contact you to confirm your interest in the position.

Submit your nomination by sending an email to simsa@dal.ca. In the email, please share which position the nomination is for, as well as why you are nominating yourself or recommending someone else. If you are nominating yourself, be sure to include a brief (max 250 word) statement of nomination to be shared with all MI students about what makes you a good candidate. Please make sure the statement is clearly marked in your email!

Nominations will be open until Thursday, 11 March at 11:59 p.m, after which voting will be conducted through an anonymous online poll. The candidate must obtain 50% + 1 of the votes to be elected.

If you have any questions, email us and we would be happy to help! Happy campaigning!
